What did investigators say about the route?
Police said the consignment was allegedly procured at Chitrakonda in Odisha and was bound for Karnataka. The preliminary enquiry identified the alleged supplier as Raju of Chitrakonda.
Investigators named Eshwar Gownder and Shivappa of Hanur in Chamarajanagar as alleged receivers. According to police, the receivers arranged the vehicle, while the transporters were promised ₹20,000.
The source and intended distribution network remain under investigation. For another drug-enforcement case, read about the methamphetamine seizure.
How does the NDPS Act define ganja?
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, or NDPS Act, defines ganja as the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant. It excludes seeds and leaves when they are not accompanied by the tops.
The Act also distinguishes ganja from charas, the separated resin of the cannabis plant. Its definition matters for Prelims because everyday uses of the word cannabis may be broader than the statutory categories.
Why does the seizure matter?
The Kodad ganja seizure illustrates the inter-State dimension of drug trafficking and the importance of coordination between enforcement agencies. However, the alleged supplier and receivers remain part of an ongoing investigation, not established findings of guilt.
