Bandipur Tiger Reserve
  • Tri-junction area of the States Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It forms a part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
  • it is surrounded by
  • Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (Tamil Nadu) in the South,
  • Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) in the South-west &
  • The Kabini Reservoir separates the Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserve on the North-west.

Project Tiger 

  • An initiative to save tigers, was first initiated in the year April 1, 1973 in Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.
  • Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC)

Objective:

  • To ensure the maintenance of a viable population of tigers in India for scientific, economic, aesthetic, cultural and ecological values.
  • To preserve, for all times, areas of biological importance as a national heritage for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the people.

National Tiger Conservation Authority

  • Established in 2005 following a recommendation of the Tiger Task Force, to reorganize management of Project Tiger and the many Tiger Reserves in India. It is the overarching body for conservation of tigers in India
