Fertilizer Consumption in India: Government has implemented several measures to promote balanced fertilisation. Despite these efforts, the consumption of urea has risen, leading to imbalanced fertilisation, decreased nitrogen use efficiency, and a decline in crop yield response to fertiliser use

Measures taken to Promote Balanced Fertilisation

• NEEM Coated Urea 
• Nano Urea 

Nutrient Based Subsidy Scheme

• Under the scheme, a fixed amount of subsidy decided on an annual basis is provided on each grade of subsidized Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers, except for Urea, based on the nutrient content present in them.
• The scheme is administered by the Department of Fertilizers under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.

About Nano Urea 

• Nano urea liquid was developed in 2022 by Indian Farmers and Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) to replace conventional urea and reduce its requirement by 50%.
• The government has heavily promoted the use of nano fertilisers since its development.
