Biotech-KISAN Scheme
What is in the News ?
- The Government said that over 1 lakh 60,000 farmers have received benefits during the Biotech-KISAN scheme in the last one year.
- In a written reply to a question in the Rajy Sabha to day, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Biotech-KISAN scheme has been launched to counsel and to provide solutions to the farmers on the problems related to water, soil, seeds and marketing.
Features of the Scheme
- Aim : To counsel and provide solutions to farmers on problems related to water, soil, seeds, and marketing.
- It was launched by Department of Biotechnology under Ministry of Science & Technology.
- It is a pan-India program that follows hub and spoke model.
- Approach : First, understand the problem of the local farmer, then link available science and technology to the farm, and provide scientific solutions to those problems.
Benefits
- Stimulates entrepreneurship and innovation among farmers;
- Empowerment of female farmers; and
- Identifies and promotes local farm leadership among farmers.
