What is in the News ?
- The US and 10 other nations (India is not part of it) issued the first-ever significant anti-spyware declaration.
- Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States are the countries involved in this.
What is a Spyware
- Spyware is software with malicious behaviour that aims to gather information about a person or organization and send it to another entity in a way that harms the user—for example, by violating their privacy or endangering their device’s security.
- For Example – Israeli Software Pegasus, Italian Commercial Spyware called “Hermit” etc.
The Declaration
- The declaration stated that Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States would take decisive steps to create robust guardrails and procedures within their respective systems.
- The declaration seeks to realize the importance of stringent domestic and international controls on the proliferation and use of this technology.
